CUBICLE – It’s nice to have administrative right on your computer at work since most people just do not have the privilege (or connection). Since I knew a couple IT guys (real IT instead of copy machine toner changers), and I request for quite some tools to be installed, they just hooked me up with the admin right to do whatever I want with my computer. I am able to download the latest Java plug-in, Google Desktop, Chrome, Adobe products, trial software applications, you name it!
But recently, this web tool for work doesn’t work very well after I got the latest IE8 (with other updates), and I had to view the page in “no style” to work on my stuff with text instead of images. Finally I had enough after 2 days (I don’t use the tool as often, but still need to use it), and I asked an IT guy to take a look without having to uninstall IE8. So he said my latest update on Java is not compatible with IE6 (yeah….) which our work tool works in, so I had to revert back to the old Java. After rolling back the rev on Java, things just didn’t look as pretty as before… at least the work tool is working now~
I guess the lesson learned here is that sometimes the more power, rights, or freedom we have, the more problem we might bring upon ourselves. Just like when we were growing up, we thought candies were the best food and we could eat it all day long, but our parents would stop us when we ate too much and only to see us crying and yelling and screaming. There are certain rules God set way before we were born, and sometimes it’s best that we stick with these rules, too…
