OFFICE – Sometimes work is kind of like school, especially on the social interactions. What do I mean by that? We had these people dubbed the “teacher’s pets” that we absolutely despised back in grade school, because they were probably more adorable than the rest of us and they knew how to “work their magic” around the teachers. In college, you might have also seen these beautiful girls surrounding a professor, who also seemed to be enjoying the company of this happy and joyful crowd.
Zoom in the camera lens to our work place now, you might see these girls/ladies who also know how to, again, work their magic. These girls/ladies, like to dress a little nicer, talk a little sweeter, and walk a little closer to those higher up the food chain. It does not really matter what their starting positions might be, some of them somehow find the way to become our managers later on. Yeah, we are talking about them, and we see them flirting around, but we might have to sit down for an annual review with them pretty soon. Guys might or might not like these girls, but girls just absolutely abhor these girls’ behavior! But again, what are you gonna do with them??
OK, we might not look as hot as they are, or talk like little birds as they always do, but we have many things they do not have: character, and…uh… and… character, and… did I mention…. well, at least we have our character!! We perform our daily tasks as we’re hired to do, and we go home without having to worry about what to wear tomorrow. Yup, it’s easy to talk about these girls/ladies or imitate them (haha, don’t we all love that?), but let’s count our blessings as much as we can, even if it means there is only one :P
The world is not fair and it doesn’t have to be fair, but we all get to choose our attitude toward the way we carry ourselves. I still believe that our attitude determines our altitude, so don’t forget to pat on the shoulder of that OK-looking cubicle neighbor of yours once a while and say “good job!”~
