To Forgive but Not Forget

forgetful 2

So we always say that we should forgive and forget, but lately I heard that it’s good to forgive but it might not be too good when we forget.  Why is that?????

When we’re wronged (intentionally or unintentionally), when the other person confesses the wrongdoing, we should definitely try hard to forgive them.  We are we to hold grudges or to hate this person if he or she has already apologized? We can hate the lies, the deceit, the betrayal, but not the people.  So the next step is to forget about what they did? Nope! Because we should watch out for these things next time if we can, and we can use these experiences to help others from falling into the same trap.

When we’re the ones who wrong others, we should also confess the wrongdoing (takes courage, I know), but we should also NOT forget what we have done wrong.  We might want to forget about these things, but God gave us this thing called memory so we can always remember and remind ourselves NOT to make the same mistakes again.  It doesn’t mean that we will never do the same thing, because after all we’re only human, but the pain when we think about these mistakes we’ve done can definitely help us avoid the mistakes again~

Life is full of happy and disappointing memories.  If we always dwell on the latter, we will never really cherish the happy ones; if we do not remember the latter, we might just keep disappointing and never have time to build the happy memories~
