Help Me Help You

Puzzle

CUBICLE - This morning a couple VPs were walking around our area talking about something.  Of course, they were pointing at things here and there, and their faces just seemed a bit too serious to be normal.  Later in the day, our boss gave us a responsibility sheet to confirm which products we’re responsible for.  Well, all these things could mean one thing to us little engineers – RE-ORG!

Well, since 4 years ago when I joined the company, I’ve had 6 bosses, so I am not unfamiliar with this term.  Every time we got a new boss, responsibilities changed and goals and targets were modified.  It is frustrating sometimes that you try hard to follow one direction and one boss, and then next moment you find out there is another direction and a new boss.  All the documents, monthly reports, meetings, phone conferences, the routines are different, and my, imagine all the hours put in.

As frustrating as it is, I’ve been blessed to learn different things from my bosses.  There are good and there are bad, but everything is an experience.  I try to hang on to the idea that I am here to work for my boss, and I follow and try my best to help him/her succeed.  If he/she cares about the company and makes right decisions, the company benefits from my work and dedication; if he/she cares nothing about the company and makes random decisions without a direction, the company loses time and money.  Still, I try to help my boss in either situation, for I am hired to help my boss, who was hired to help manage the team he/she’s assigned to manage.  I know it gets hard when the boss is no good, but it does me no good going against him…

Of course, easier said than done, and I’ve done things that went the other way from what I should’ve done.  As not-smart as it seems, I still believe helping the boss succeed is the goal, and I’ll continue to try to do it.  What do you think?
