FRIEND’S HOME – We went to our friend’s place to watch the Superbowl game between the Colts and Saints, and we really had a great time (at least for those who rooted for the Saints). Of course, congrats to the Saints for winning their first ever championship, and they really fought hard and worked hard to get to this stage and win it all~!
I noticed that for those football non-regulars (those without a favorite team but know enough to care to watch it), most of them were rooting for New Orleans Saints. Two reasons I heard:
- NO has been through a lot over the years since Katrina, and they need a big win to find that hope exists and can come true.
- NO is the less experience team, and the underdog!
It’s interesting that people want to see others feel and see hope come true, and they want the underdog to succeed! I believe that it’s a reflection of what’s really inside these people’s hearts – suppressed and confined by their work environment. Everyday we go to work to help our boss and company succeed, and we have to do things we might not necessarily like so that we can keep the boss satisfied. Maybe we have to work overtime quite often, instead of going home to hang out with the family. Or maybe, we have to skip lunch so that we can finish this last minute report we are asked to do out of the blue! We don’t have much control of where we want to go, and all these big dreams of doing great and meaningful things just kind of died away as we are trying hard to please our superior. It’s not that the dreams are not there, but they are buried underneath a thick layer of, reality.
We want to feel that we can still achieve our dreams, that we can still succeed even though we’re behind (for the Saints, it was 10 points). So rooting for the underdog during the Superbowl is common sense because we feel like, even though we don’t say it, the underdogs of the work environment. We want to believe! After seeing the Saints win by 14 points against the Colts, I do feel more confident, and again have found some inspiration for work. Yes, I want to believe, too!

I rooted for the Saints too because my hubby rooted for them. He is my source of inspiration. ;)
